Time for a road trip
Last May, we packed up the car and headed south to visit our son, Kelly, and his girlfriend Jessica. They call Berkeley home at the moment. As Berkeley is right near Napa, well an opportunity to enjoy some of the local beverages.
One of the more photogenic places we stopped at was the Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga at the Northwest end of the Napa Valley. These are some of the photos I took while we were touring the site – highly recommended even if it is a bit over the top.
A Barrel Room
By storing the maturing wine in barrels in caves under the castle, they are maintained at a constant temperature that can be controlled to enable better fermentation.
Another Barrel Room
The bar dog
Liddy and I bellied up to the bar to taste some of the fine wines that are available at the castle.
Another Road Trip
We are off to Napa for another visit – might be a little warm – We hope to find some new labels to add to our collection.
We are planning some adventures into the eastern reaches of Washington later this year to enjoy the harvest and crush in the Columbia Valley, or perhaps the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. In the meantime, we will lift a glass for Canada Day, tomorrow, and July 4th.
