Ugly Ducks

Monday of last week found me running about doing errands. The official reason for the day off was a visit to a doctor. On the way to the appointment Liddy and I went down to Alderton, (a fly spot on the Northwest map) where we could access the Orting Trail for our morning walk. It was socked right in with fog so we didn’t find this flock of swans until on our way home later in the day.

Swans, Geese, and ducks were all out in the soggy field foraging for whatever they forage for.

How the ugly duckling fairy tale ever got started, I just can’t imagine. The mother duck would have had a fit at the size of the egg. And then watch it grow! Look how big these guys are compared to the Canadian Geese. They aren’t little ones either.

Ah well – take a moment and free some time to wander over to the Orting Highway just south of Sumner. The field is on the west (left) as you drive south from Highway 410. If you reach Spooner Farms, you’ve gone too far.
